Google Partner Indonesia, 7 things you need to know about it

December 9, 2024
When dealing with third parties regarding Google Partner services, there are many perceptions in the market about the term “Google Partner.” This article will provide you with a comprehensive guide and summary.

Note: Doxadigital is one of the Google Partners in Indonesia that provides Google Ads (formerly Google AdWords) services.

What is Google Partner?

The Google Partner program is a status awarded by Google to advertising agencies or individuals who manage several Google Ads and have the competence that meets the standards set by Google’s advertising program.

Thus, the Google Partner status is not related to SEO (Search Engine Optimization), Google Adsense, Gmail, Google Analytics, or other services. Generally, the benefit of the Google Partner program is access to special educational materials and certification programs for Google advertising.

Google does not provide advertising incentives (advertising commissions) to Google Partners. In some cases, commissions from advertisements are usually only given to automated advertising application services through certain agreements.

How to Become a Google Partner in Indonesia?

Anyone is eligible to join the Google Partner program, but you must first have a Google Manager Account, then register your data and account number on the Google Partner registration page here.

Congratulations! You’ve joined the Google Partner program, but if you’ve just registered, you are not yet entitled to the Google Partner badge. To earn the Google Partner badge, there are three main requirements for partner status:

  • Pass Certification Exams: You must take at least two exams from a total of six exams, including Google Ads Fundamentals, Google Ads Search, Google Ads Display Network, Google Ads Mobile, Google Ads Video, and Google Ads Shopping. These certification exams must be renewed at least once a year. Certification can be taken on Google’s online learning site, Academy for Ads.
  • Advertising Spend: Since the Google Partner program focuses on account management, Google sets a minimum advertising spend that must be managed within a certain period, which is at least $10,000 over the last 90 days. By working with a Google Partner, Google wants to ensure that advertisers are working with third parties who are active and experienced in managing multiple Google Ads.
  • Company Performance: This is a requirement that is not made public, but essentially, Google will assess the performance of the Google Partner. There are four performance evaluation criteria:
    • Client revenue growth: Did the client increase their budget?
    • Client retention: Did the client continue their subscription in the past 12 months?
    • Overall revenue growth.
    • Growth in the number of advertisers: Did the number of clients increase?

What are the Types of Google Partner Membership?

Google Partner has three membership levels:

  • New Registration / Membership without Badge.
  • Google Partner (Blue Badge).
  • Google Partner Premium (Red Badge).

The fundamental difference between the Blue Badge and the Red Badge is the much higher premium requirements. For Google Partner Blue Badge, only one certification is required, while for Google Partner Premium, the requirement is two people. The advertising spend requirement for Google Partner Red Badge varies by country, but in Indonesia, it can reach up to $80,000 (over 1 billion IDR) within 90 days. Google Partner Premium is typically held by agencies with large clients or those offering applications related to Google Ads.

How to Check the Google Partner Status?

Each Google partner who is entitled to the Google Partner badge usually has a public profile on a Google page. For example, you can check here: https://www.google.com/partners/agency?id=9934510240. Make sure to check this first, as many third parties may use the Google Partner logo but cannot show a public profile.

What’s the Difference Between Google Partner and Google Certification?

The Google Partner program and Google Certification are fundamentally two different things. Google Certification is a certification in using the Google Ads platform, while Google Partner (Blue or Red Badge) is a status given to third parties that meet the competency requirements. Google never provides certification to Google Partners.

Google Offers Ad Management Assistance, Why Do I Need to Work with a Google Partner?

Yes, Google is committed to providing 90 days of support for account management. However, this is limited to the Google Ads platform and only for 90 days. A Google Partner can provide a broader view of digital marketing because advertising programs can be viewed from various perspectives, such as social media advertising (Facebook/Instagram Ads), website optimization, video creation, and more.

How to Choose a Google Partner to Help Your Business?

Working with a Google Partner can certainly lead to better results because Google sets high standards. However, working with a Google Partner is not a guarantee of positive results because Google Partner is a quality standard for the Google platform. Google Partners are proficient in managing Google Ads platforms, but you are the expert in your product. You need to communicate and see if the Google Partner understands your business goals.

Here are some tips for working with a Google Partner agency for your business:

  • Define Specific Goals: Google agencies are experts in the advertising platform, but as a website owner, you must communicate your advertising goals, whether it’s awareness (brand recognition) or sales (transactions). If you want both, which is the priority?
  • Look at Their Insights: Tell them about your business and ask how the agency or consultant views your business. Pay attention to their answers, as this will show you if they have a mindset aligned with yours or if they’re just trying to sell.
  • Portfolio: See if the partner is strong in a particular industry or has experience in your industry.
  • Reporting and Transparency in Ad Management: Agencies may have different business models. Some may provide periodic monthly reports, while others offer more real-time reporting. The ad management policies also vary, with some being fully transparent and others not. Regardless, make sure the third party’s policy does not burden your business.
