7 Landing Page Mistakes to Avoid

December 9, 2024

A landing page is a specific page on a website created for a particular purpose, whether it’s to offer a product, service, free download, and so on. A landing page, when done right, can generate maximum results. However, there are 7 common landing page mistakes you should avoid:

1.Lack of a Clear Flow

If your landing page forces visitors to think hard to understand the core of your offer, it’s clear something is wrong with your page. Ideally, when someone lands on that page, they should immediately know what to do or what is being offered to them. The flow of a landing page should be clear so the story you want to convey can be easily understood by your visitors.

2.Text-Heavy Content

In other words, you need images on your landing page! Images can communicate much more than words. Besides, most people skim-read. Therefore, you should simplify the text on your landing page to grab the visitors’ attention. Avoid long paragraphs; it’s better to use bullet points to present information on your page.

3.Using the Wrong Images

Okay, maybe you’ve included images on your landing page. But those images do not support the content of your page. They might even confuse your visitors. Try using engaging images that show your product or service and tell its purpose to your visitors.

4.Weak Call-To-Action (CTA)

Now, look at the Call-To-Action (CTA) on your landing page. Is it easy for visitors to find? How about the color and font, do they grab the visitors’ attention? Does the CTA encourage visitors to take the action you want them to? If you answered “NO” to any of these questions, it’s time to rethink your CTA’s design and placement to make it more prominent and persuasive.

5.Complicated Forms

Remember, the purpose of a landing page is usually to collect information from visitors related to what you’re offering them. So, make sure your form is relevant, simple, and clear, without unnecessary complexity. Don’t let a complicated form drive visitors away from your landing page.

6.No Testimonials

Nowadays, people tend to research reviews of a product or service before deciding to purchase. Testimonials on your landing page will help support your credibility. However, you can’t just post any random testimonials. Show a few impressive and positive testimonials from real people who have tried your product or service, so it becomes more convincing to visitors interested in your offer.

7.Using Language Visitors Don’t Understand

The language or terms should not be too technical or niche. Make sure your landing page content resonates with what your target visitors are looking for. If necessary, conduct research on the words commonly used by your visitors when searching for the type of service/product you offer.
