Would you like to use an intelligent assistant in your business? Still using ChatGPT? Let me introduce Bard, the artificial intelligence chatbot from Google. Google announced the latest update for Bard on July 13, 2023, and I believe this marks the beginning of Bard’s global expansion, potentially dethroning ChatGPT from its position as the favorite tool for business professionals in Indonesia. I’ve summarized some of Bard’s updated features that might amaze you and simplify your tasks through Google’s chatbot.
What is Google Bard?
Google Bard is an AI chatbot powered by a large language model (LLM) developed by Google AI. Bard is trained using machine learning models on vast amounts of text data, enabling it to generate text, translate languages, write various types of creative content, and answer your questions informatively. It’s easy to use: simply ask a question in a conversational style, just like you would with a friend. Isn’t that simple?

Google Bard vs ChatGPT
The concept of an AI chatbot is not new. Google Bard has to be recognized as late to the scene, given its strongest competitor, ChatGPT by OpenAI, made waves worldwide since its launch in late November 2022. Yes, Bard’s debut was delayed. Google launched Bard in February 2023. However, Google should not be underestimated. The tech giant, which has been using machine learning (ML) since the early 2000s, is certainly ready to compete with ChatGPT.
As of the time of writing this article, I note several major advantages of Google Bard over ChatGPT:
-
Quick Information Updates. Google has not stated that Bard is trained on data from a specific point in time. This is in contrast to ChatGPT, which is trained on data from a fixed period. Let’s ask ChatGPT: “Where is Cristiano Ronaldo’s club?”
-
Product Updates. Bard’s team regularly rolls out updates, providing users with many advanced features for free. This contrasts with ChatGPT, where users need to join a waitlist and subscribe to a paid plan for new features.
-
Built by Google. This is crucial because Google is a company with the most extensive and complex information in the world. With such a vast data pool, Bard is likely to offer more accurate knowledge. OpenAI, on the other hand, conducts its research and has only recently received support from Microsoft.
-
Designed for Search Activities. Bard is based on a core AI technology for future search (known as Search Generative Experience). If you are a marketer, this is a great moment to learn how conversations with AI could become the new norm in search engine marketing.
Advanced Bard Features You Should Know
Location-Based Searching (Location Targeting).
Bard is now integrated with the search engine and your device’s location (Geo Location). For example, if you ask Bard, “I’m looking for a Digital Marketing Agency in West Jakarta,” Bard can do that for you!
Connected with Google Lens for Image-Based Search.
Bard now supports searching for information using images, which I believe is the future of search, where user behavior involves asking questions rather than just entering keywords.
Product Recommendations.
As mentioned earlier, Bard can access information on the internet to recommend products relevant to you. Although this feature is still experimental, it will be used in the future of Google search engines.
Coding, Data Analysis, and Math.
While not everyone might use this feature, it is certainly helpful for programmers and data analysts. Supported programming languages include JavaScript, PHP, Python, C++, Ruby, Go, and more (you can ask Bard directly about this).
General Bard Features That Are Just as Impressive
As of July 2023, here are some other interesting general features of Google Bard:
- Article Writing.
- Languages. Bard supports a total of 40 languages, including Indonesian.
- Voice. Bard’s output can be played in voice form.
- Browsing. You can ask Bard to analyze a specific webpage and provide a summary.
- Dark/Light Mode. You can switch the display mode anytime (I prefer dark mode—it saves battery).
- Integration with Google Workspace. Integration with Gmail and other Workspace products.
Special Note for SEO Practitioners
Google Bard opens up opportunities for you to understand how machines process information, which in the world of SEO is referred to as “Semantics.” Use this moment to transition from being a Google user to becoming an SEO engineer, understanding how the algorithm processes information.
Happy Creating!
